We welcome all comments on our blog posts; many readers have expressed concern and outrage regarding the video of the Marine in Hawaii who threw a puppy to its death over a rocky cliff. We do not condone any type of animal mistreatment, in fact we are outraged by it. Here is an update on this story…
- The video was sent to, and posted by YouTube where it was seen by more than 145,000 viewers who reported the video to the YouTube management; YouTube does not screen videos prior to posting them, according to many viewers. YouTube promptly removed the video after numerous complaints.
- According to an unidentified Marine spokesman, this matter has the full, personal attention of the Marine Corps Commandant, who has initiated a top-level investigation into the Lance Corporal’s actions of allegedly killing the puppy and the actions of the Marine who videotaped this incident.
- According to the Uniform Code of Military Justice, all Marines who were involved in these actions can be subjected to a court martial; if convicted, the offenders could face a bad conduct or dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all rank, pay and benefits, a federal conviction on their records, and time in a military confinement facility.
- A Marine Corps spokesman, Major Chris Perrine, again emphasized that this was the act of one or two individuals and are not indicative of the actions of honorable Marines who hold themselves to the highest standards of conduct.
The staff and management of dogdow.com find this incident, as it has been reported, to be a deplorable act of animal cruelty that should be swiftly dealt with by the top-level Marine Corps commanders and Hawaiian civilian law enforcement personnel. However, until all the facts of this incident are fully investigated, we wish to remind readers that things are not always as they seem to be.
We appreciate and welcome the comments of our readers, and also the concern shown regarding the alleged abuse of this puppy.
