The US Marine Corps is America’s finest combat force with unquestioned valor and ferocity.
Today that reputation was defiled by a video posted on YouTube of a Marine in Honolulu throwing a puppy over a cliff and joking about it…The full brunt of the wrath of the USMC’s top brass is focused upon a Lance Corporal apparently named “Motari” stationed in Honolulu who held a small black and white puppy up to the video camera then threw the little dog off a rocky cliff. The pup could be heard yelping on the video. “Oh, I tripped,” said the Marine.
The soldier sent the video to YouTube, an amateur video site; it was removed after 145,000 viewings for violating YouTube’s content rules. Major Chris Perrine, Director of Public Affairs at the Hawaiian base stated, “This video is shocking and deplorable, and is contrary to the high standards we expect from every Marine. The vast majority of Marines conduct their duties in an honorable manner that brings great credit upon the Corps and the United States.”
An investigation of this case of animal abuse is underway both by civilian authorities for animal cruelty and by the USMC for code of conduct violation. It it highly likely that this individual, and any others involved, will pay a severe penalty for their actions.
The rates of animal cruelty in the US are the highest in the world, according to the ASPCA. From dog fighting, to starvation and neglect, to outright torture is an issue that the American public must grapple with on a serious basis. Because of protests to lawmakers, many states have raised the bar on animal abuse by making it a felony rather than a misdomeanor.
“Certainly there’s a lot of outrage and a lot of people upset about it,” said Major Perrine. “I think every Marine is upset about this video.”
To all the honorable Marines who are serving the United States, Semper Fi!
